Michael K. Myers Engineering Scholarship

This fund will provide merit-based scholarship support to both undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of GW’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. The fund may also be used for stipend/fellowship support. The fund will be spent at the discretion of the chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, in consultation with the Office of Student Financial Assistance and the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships.

Sheila Myers intends to continue to make $40,000 annual gifts every year for the remainder of her life. The seven pledge payments above reflect the GW Making History counting convention of counting pledges made during the campaign that extend up to five years after the campaign close. Mrs. Myers has also made a provision with TIAA for GW to receive 20% of the assets that remain in her TIAA accounts after her lifetime. Her financial consultant at TIAA estimates the value of this planned gift (beneficiary designations) to be approximately $275,000. These funds would be in addition to the $280,000 in annual payments outlined above.

Following receipt by GW of the testamentary gift from Mrs. Myers’ TIAA accounts, GW will continue to use the funds according to the purpose stated above, with expenditures limited to $20,000 per year until the fund is exhausted. Mrs. Myers wishes for her fund to remain at all times as a current use fund in her husband’s name; it should not be converted to a named endowed fund.
