Sugai Summer Intensive English and Leadership Development Fund

The funds will initially provide scholarship support to students participating in the Language Center’s pre-college summer program to develop English language and leadership skills. First preference will be given to students living in Japan who were orphaned or lost a parent in the March 11, 2011 earthquake and subsequent tsunami. In the event that no students are identified who meet the first preference, the second preference is for students who live in Japan and who demonstrate financial need. Support from the funds may be applied toward tuition, room, board, and travel to and from Japan.

After the first two years, the funds may provide scholarship support to any student who has completed the pre-college summer program and who then matriculates as a student at GW, with preference to students who live in Japan, as well as any international student studying English at the Language Center.
